Ruse of Engagement 叛逃 2014 - First Impressions

I did have a slight prejudgement of this drama because I know that it was filmed a while back but with the air date being so delayed, I thought the drama was probably not that good.

After watching episodes one and two I can definitely say that prejudgement couldn't have been more wrong. The first two episodes kept me gripping the edge of my seat. It was bloody amazing! Filled with action and drama, the storyline was very engaging. I didn't want to stop watching. I love TVB police dramas because I know the storyline will be good.

Although, it did air shortly after Outbound Love finished, which also starred Ruco Chan and Aimee Chan so maybe another airing date would be better. When I see the same actors over and over again, it gets a bit boring.

So the drama is based on the Anti-Terrorist Force and to me, that means there's definitely more drama to come. The main characters are Ruco Chan, Ron Ng, Aimee Chan and Yoyo Mung. Although when I first watched it, I wouldn't even know Yoyo Mung starred in it if it wasn't for the poster photo. She doesn't appear until episode four. She plays a reporter so it doesn't seem like a dramatic role, but it's nice to see a change as I assumed she would be part of the police force. Ron's character seems sensible and the typical good boy. To me, Ruco's character seems a bit of a jerk. I don't see much breakthrough in Aimee's role since Outbound Love, but I am surprised there's already a relationship between the two so early on.

Sad to say, it goes downhill from episode three. I still find the drama good, but not as engaging as the first two episodes. I find that TVB dramas seem to do that a lot. They start with a strong first episode to get the viewers attention, and then focus more on the love/family storyline.

I hope that there will be more action in this drama because the first two episodes really captured my attention.

Super Trio Maximus - 超級無敵獎門人 終極篇 2013

Mini review

It was lovely to see the return of the famous Super Trio series!

After hearing that all past and present hosts would present the show with 獎門人 曾志偉 I was looking forward to seeing it even more. Although, as it aired, I realised that some of the hosts only made one or two appearances and that's about it. For example Jordan Chan and 蘭茜. I understand that there are so many of them, they cannot all be on stage at once, but a consistent rota would perhaps be better. You can't honestly say that all the past and present hosts are back to present when in reality, they're only back for one episode.

Anyway, back to all the games. The first episode was just preparing for the actual game show and showed the guests in Japan where they tried out new games. It gave off a more touristy vibe. It was entertaining but I still prefer the games back in the studio.

Back in Hong Kong for the second episode, they hosted their own awards ceremony.

Episode three and finally the game show is on track. I felt like the games weren't as funny as they had been before. Although, who can say no to watching it even though the previous years were better? It has been quite some time ago since this series first aired (26th May 2013), so excuse me for the lack of detail.

As the show went on, they eventually had a section where they played their old, classic games, which was great for me! I started to enjoy the show more. My all time favourite game is the 大電視 (Big Television) where the team is split into two, and one group have to act out what the word or phrase is without actually saying it and the other guessing it.

I look forward to watching this every weekend and this still remains as my all time favourite variety show. :)
